When I coach my female business clients, much of the time their businesses started out because they wanted to 'fix' a problem they came across. Everything from not finding what they needed in the shops to being fed up with products that don't work – a woman will alter the product, or source their ideal solutions, then, because they want to share their new found product – one that actually works or fixes their biggest most time consuming problem, they'll shout about it to their friends and before they know it – a business has been born! That's what happened to GP Arabella Sargent – problem solving is her biggest talent, she uses it everyday and has now built a business too – read what she says below;
1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I would say that my talent is for problem-solving, it’s something that I’ve always had a propensity for. I’m a GP so every day is completely different with loads of people coming to me for help and advice about a variety of problems. I have to make sure that I completely understand what the patients are telling me, and what they’re not, and then to tailor the advice I give to their individual personalities.
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
From a young age I realised I wanted to help people and knew that my inquisitive mind would be a great asset to me. When I started up my Baby Babette business it was because I’d spotted a problem with being able to breastfeed where and whenever I wanted and had come up with a solution to get round it. It just so happened that my solution turned out to be the solution that a lot of other women had been looking for as well and so my business was born. I design the Baby Babettes myself, run the website and field all enquiries that come my way. It’s hard work but I love what I’m doing so it’s definitely worth it.
