Well, as you know by now Pink Expertise was set up to find experts, inspirational women who know what they're talents are and who'd be prepared to shout about them in order to inspire other women to find theirs. I'm SO pleased that Heather Darnell said yes straight away when I asked her to contribute but as you'll find out by reading below, saying yes comes easily to her and with it...a sense of 'I can do it' – Heather is pure inspiration – read below to be dazzled!
1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I believe that I can do anything. Well, to re-phrase that so it does not sound so outrageous – until I try something and fail at it, I believe that I COULD do it. That means that I say yes to almost every new opportunity that comes my way. Whenever I have been asked to do something new, I almost never say no. I believe that nothing is too hard to at least try.
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
Ten years after I had left university and started full time work, I realised that although I was with the very same company ten long years later, I was on my tenth job there. I had moved from being an Administrative Assistant to an Operations Director with stops along the way that included Financial Analyst, IT Manager and Chief Information Officer. I had worked in three offices in two countries in four different departments and six different divisions. I had pretty much said yes to every opportunity that came my way, and in doing so learned many new skills and advanced significantly up the corporate ladder in doing so. I did not become a wild success at each thing I tried, but I definitely learned something each time. When setting up my own business six years ago, I was able to offer my clients a vast array of commercial knowledge that was gained by being involved in so many different areas of business beforehand. I have also expanded my business’s offerings to new areas when clients asked for it, even if it was new to me. One of those new things – accountancy – is now a huge part of my business run by two fantastic accountants.
