When I read my next pink expert's answers, it struck me that she didn't have just one single talent, she had many. It also struck me that in actual fact the reason people 'buy' her, is probably because she brings her whole self into her business. By that I mean, people 'buy' all of her, her experiences, her expertise, her knowledge and her honesty – mix that with a sincere desire to be of help and you get Ellen Besso. It's interesting how many people split business and themselves to severely and whilst everyone's comfort levels on this sensitive topic will differ – one thing is for sure, people buy people and when you let them see who you are as a person, you're more likely to be successful just by being you!
1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
Others sense and respond to my openness, my honesty and my sincere desire to be of help, whether it's in my paid work, my volunteer work or my friendships.
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
Around age 50, after becoming a professional counsellor, I seemed to develop the ability to see myself and my gifts more clearly, more objectively. I use my talents, my own life experiences, my writing and life coaching to support and guide mid-life women through the challenges of their life passage. "The Caregiver in MidLife: Where their needs end & yours begin", my recently released e-book, is a holistic offering that combines my personal story as caregiver with helpful information and an exercise booklet to catalyze change.
