I was only talking about how women have to juggle with a client of mine just yesterday. A huge sweeping statement I know, but I really don't think most men need to juggle that much - we do it for them! Think about it, we're the ones who keep an eye on the laundry basket, the fridge and its contents, what to get out of the freezer and what homework little Johnny might have! Then there's everything else, work deadlines, sales targets, marketing plans , we carry all this stuff around in our heads! For most of the time, we do it brilliantly, when it all starts to feel like an up hill struggle and we're bursting into tears in the middle of Tesco's, it seems everyone else around us is doing SUCH a better job than we are - that's when my women call their coach for a top up!
My next pink expert Deborah Durbin seems to have got juggling off to a fine art...even if she does sometimes forget to feed the kids! This is what she says;
1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
My natural talent is juggling - not in a circus trick kind of way, I hasten to add. I'm a mum to three daughters, ranging from six to 15, who are all home-schooled. I'm also a wife, chauffer, cash machine, agony aunt, primary cleaner-upper of pet animals, but my day job is that of a journalist and freelance writer. So juggling skills are of paramount importance if I'm to meet publisher's deadlines. Unfortunately I also have a natural talent of procrastinating, which does tend to upset the balance of my juggling skills from time to time - especially when I forget to feed the kids!
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
Women are very good at juggling many things at once without realising it and I think it's only when you look back that you see just how good you really are at this juggling lark. I don't think there was a time when I had a eureka moment and suddenly thought, hey, you know what, I'm really good at this juggling business. For me it's when I look back over the years and I think, wow, did I really manage to write that book whilst bringing up three children? I now know that I can do the job I love doing and still be a great mum, teacher, wife, sister, friend and I really can keep all the balls in the air - so long as don't give in to the temptation of procrastination, of course!
