Do you wander through your life noticing all the little imperfections that others seem to take for granted? Perhaps it bugs the life out of you that no-one else seems to care about attention to detail like you do? Well, you're in good company, Carol Margolis sites her attention to detail as the talent that makes her and her business successful. Read on to see exactly what she means;
1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I have been a project manager of systems implementations, and my attention to organization and details in my work has helped me be successful in my new venture. In project management, after I’ve created the detailed plans, I have learned to focus on the bigger picture and the direction of the tasks rather than get distressed over small things that I cannot control. Other important lessons learned have been to know when good is good enough rather than strive for 100% perfection, as well as always have a Plan B for when your original plan doesn’t work out.
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
As a project manager, you think I’d have realized that this talent was going to help me out immediately, but I didn’t! I was not treating the launch of a new business as a project, but rather going in all directions trying to do everything myself. I had an awakening moment and realized “Duh, treat this like a project,” and the launch has been much smoother since then. I’ve also got the future growth plans detailed in my business model and am listing the tasks necessary to get it done and involving others when my time is over committed.
