It's not always easy to adapt to a new environment or culture. I've done both, personally and professionally, I moved to Greece when I was just 21 with nothing but £200 in my pocket! For my next Pink Expert, this would have been a walk in the park. Adapting to new environments and cultures is what makes Joanna Tall so good at her job. I'll let her tell you the rest but do nip over to her website, it's absolutely stunning, I love it! Here she is;
1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I believe I am naturally good at adapting to new environments and cultures. Having moved around Europe and the US from a very young age and been sent to a multitude of schools, this 'talent' was sort of imposed on me, although at the time I just saw it as my natural life style. As a result, I seemed to assimilate with new cultures and the local languages quite easily (and according to my Mum, my English accent as been ruined!). This adaptability has enabled me to be very successful as a 'legal Mary Poppins'.
2. When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how did you use it?
After becoming disillusioned with life as a City Layer and the inflexible working practices after I returned from maternity leave, I decided to go it alone. After literally knocking on the doors of large corporates and offering my services as a 'legal Mary Poppins', I was thrilled to find they actually needed my help and kept asking me back for more. I found I loved both the constantly changing environment and the satisfaction I felt at being able to help the in-house lawyers who were often at breaking point. I never got involved in politics, nobody ever felt threatened by me. I was simply there to help. So I made it my business and that become Trading Terms Limited.
Now I feel there is another group that needs my help and that is female entrepreneurs. Whilst their numbers are on the increase and there are lots of networks to help them, there are no dedicated lawyers to speak their language-simply from woman to woman. So I have launched a virtual law firm on line which I hope will be a great resource at any time of the day, knowing how many of us juggle family life with work. I wanted to break the mould of traditional legal websites and present business law in a simple and lighthearted way. I am terrible at getting the giggles too and I hope my sense of humour will shine through!
