1. What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I can fix systems (often by removing them) within health organisations so that they work more effectively....I like designing a system so that patient receives great care and the staff feel motivated. Life is supposed to be fun...even in a hospital! The added benefit is I can save money -or increase profits at the same time - in essence lean management with a heart.
2.When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
I haven't fitted into very staid or rigid organisations throughout my career, so working for myself as a consultant and helping make the organisations a bit kinder that are supposedly already delivering healthcare seemed natural. I have always liked to look after people and can do this on mass if I can make a whole service or team run effectively and making the team members feel motivated so they deliver exemplary care then it's a win win. When you are unwell or the people you care most about are, you want a credible and kind team in charge...ask anybody whose not had this experience!
