What talent do you naturally have that makes you successful?
I have a naturally curious character. I ask a lot of questions and am always on the look out to learn something new, whether about myself, others or the world around me.
When did you first realise that talent was going to help you and how do you use it?
I hadn't realised that being curious and interested was a talent until others pointed it out. I believe that it's a key way for people to realise how valuable their natural talents are - listen to the compliments that others give away (we all too easily undersell ourselves - especially women!). Being interested in others and the world, enables me to challenge perspectives, which in turn feeds my personal growth. I don't think I have met anyone who hasn't taught me something from the year 3 pupil to the CEO.
What emotional attachment do you have to your work?
As much as I love what I do, could talk about the power of inner authentic confidence for days on end and believe that I have the best 'job' in the world, my aim is to have detachment from it. That might sound odd to some, but I want to remain open to the opportunities that the universe has to offer me. When I started Positive Belief, five years ago the year (Happy Birthday to us...) I did not have the intention to offer half the things we do now.
I have been open to these opportunities and assess whether I want to do them as they come along, I trust my instincts and will turn clients and projects away if I do not feel they are for Positive Belief. I have goals and a direction, my main aim though is to accept some of the diversions and well...go with the flow!
What tips do you have for other women who'd like to do your job?
First I would say, stop and check in with yourself if 'my job' is really what you want or are there elements of what I do that would suit you rather than the whole thing? I met a lady recently who said 'I want to do what you do', so we had a chat and by the end of it, what she came to realise was that she didn't want to be a coach and a speaker at all, what she was looking for was to be doing something that ignited her personal passion and highlighted her own natural talents.
Seeing someone happy in their work and enjoying their life can be attractive, my tip would be to think about it first and is possible, ask questions of the person about their job You may well find that you're being drawn to their enthusiasm and passion rather than their work.
