Personally, I think breastfeeding is the best possible start that any baby/child can have in life. Is a child of 4 too old to be breastfeeding? For me, probably! However, in the end I think this is a really personal choice for the mother. We must remember also, that while this may be considered too old by western standards; in many parts of the world mothers continue breastfeeding even beyond the age of 8-years old.

I'm glad we live in a country where we have freedom of choice on this, because it varies so much from mother to mother. For me, if a child can walk up to the mother and articulate he would like to feed NOW - then he's too old.
